Laser tag arena payback: calculation and timelines
How to estimate payback for rental laser tag: average ticket, occupancy, operating costs and typical timelines for clubs and malls.
Laser tag arena payback depends on location, capacity, average ticket and fixed costs. There is no universal number, but you can model ROI before buying equipment — and see which levers matter most for return on investment.
The main parameter is not “how much the kit costs” but how many games per month you will actually run at your traffic level. Two clubs with the same CYBERTAG fleet in different districts of one city can differ in revenue by 2–3×.
Revenue side
- Games per day × average ticket × operating days per month.
- Add-ons: birthdays, corporate events, passes, drinks and merch (if the landlord allows).
- Seasonality — resorts and malls behave differently: malls are steadier on weekdays, resorts in waves.
- Repeat visits — CYBERTAG ratings and stats motivate guests to come back.
Simplified example
Suppose an arena runs 8 games on weekdays and 18 on weekends. Average ticket $12 per player, 8 players per group. For one month (22 weekdays + 8 weekend days):
- Weekdays: 8 × 8 × 12 × 22 ≈ $16,900
- Weekends: 18 × 8 × 12 × 8 ≈ $13,800
- Total revenue ≈ $30,700/month (excluding birthdays and corporate events)
This is a benchmark for “average” load. Your numbers depend on city, competition and service quality. The model shows order of magnitude, not a guaranteed ROI.
Cost side
Rent (often 15–25% of revenue in malls), operator and front-desk payroll, utilities, equipment maintenance, marketing, taxes. Higher foot traffic pays back investment in the CYBERTAG fleet faster — but mall rent is higher too.
Reserve a maintenance fund: 3–5% of revenue for minor repairs, consumables and unexpected downtime.
Typical timelines
With a strong location and solid launch, many projects reach payback in 12–24 months. Suburban clubs with word-of-mouth — closer to the lower range. High-rent malls — often 18–30 months if you miss planned load in the first six months.
What speeds up payback
- Birthday and corporate packages — see our birthday format on the arena.
- Fast player rotation — right fleet size and trained operators.
- Launch marketing plus review management on maps and social platforms.
