Laser tag arena in a shopping mall: launch specifics
Floor area, throughput, fire codes and kit choice — what to consider when opening laser tag in a mall.
A shopping mall delivers ready foot traffic but imposes strict requirements on area, safety and integration with mall infrastructure. Launching a laser tag arena in a mall is a distinct scenario with faster payback when the kit and guest flow are right.
Unlike a standalone club, you are not building traffic from zero — you compete for attention from families already in the mall. Storefront, signage, clear pricing at the entrance and “walk in for one game” without long booking are critical for conversion.
Venue requirements
- 300–400 m² or more for a comfortable maze with 15–25 simultaneous players.
- Fire safety, evacuation routes, landlord approvals — a separate document package.
- Sound insulation from neighbors (cinema, food court).
- Dedicated entrance or highly visible wayfinding from the food court and kids zones.
- HVAC — 15–30 people moving constantly inside the maze.
Throughput
On Saturday a mall can put 200+ potential guests past your door. The bottleneck is usually not the maze but seating speed: changing area, vest issue, briefing, charging between shifts. Smart/Pro kits with an energizer and two operators at peak are a minimum for stable operation.
CYBERTAG software manages scenario queues and prints stats — guests leave with a “hero card,” which drives repeat visits and social posts.
Equipment and software
Malls typically choose Smart, Pro or Elite with an expanded fleet and fast rotation. Software supports back-to-back games without idle gaps. See implemented projects — Happylon in Moscow and other locations on our client map.
Do not under-size vests “for later” — on peak days it is better to have sets charging in reserve than lose a queue to wait time.
Staff and hours
Mall hours are often 10:00–22:00. You need shift coverage: at least two operators at peak plus front desk for POS and bookings. LaserArena staff training is included in turnkey projects.
